114 YEARS FROM THE CONGRESS OF THE MONASTERY

Congratulations on November 22 – ALBANIAN ALPHABET DAY!

114 years ago Albanian patriots, intellectuals, clergy, patriots and libertarians gathered in Manastir for one purpose, the standardization of the alphabet of the Albanian language.

History called this meeting the Congress of the Monastery, or Congress of the Alphabet, the creation of which was the most serious step up to that time for the independence of the Albanian nation.

The Monastery Congress took place from November 14 to November 22, 1908, when it finished its work successfully, and from that day the Albanian language is written with this alphabet, and not as before the congress when six or more alphabets were used, not counting the sub-variants.

The Congress of Manastir was held by the society "Bashkimi" in the house of Fehim Zavalani, where the headquarters of the society was also.

"Geg' and Toskë, Malësi, Jallija/ They are one nation, I can't stand it/ At the end of the day, one is Albania,/ One language unites us all".
